Networked Interaction in Foreign Language Acquisition and Research

To secure exploitation of the project's 3D related project results NIFLAR has struck strategic alliances with 2 organisations that support language learning activities in Second Life and Open Sim: Talkademy and VirtYou.

NIFLAR has established a so-called Launchroom at Forum Europe from where holodecked scenarios can be accessed for the completion of tasks by academic students.

NIFLAR's Open Sim islands will be continued at VirtYou. By contracting Nick Zwart for maintenance and further SIM development SLoodle applications can be realised and collaboration with DigiSchool is facilitated. DigiSchool is an interesting partner because, in addition to providing open source learning materials, this Dutch organisation is developing 3D Language Village services for a number of languages. E.g. check out the information on their English Village Chatterdale. For more info about and first experiences with the virtual Language Village concept also see (Koenraad, 2008).  It is expected that the combination of these research and practice oriented initiatives might well result in an educational win-win situation.
