The workshop at the
Coimbra Conference on NIFLAR's 3D environments in Second Life and Open Sim was well attended. After a brief introduction about the design principles for the virtual environments to support language practice and intercultural communication skills development, participants were invited to explore the various regions available on the NIFLAR SIM themselves. Accounts and avatars had been created beforehand to have enough time for this hands-on session. It is always rewarding to see and hear the reactions of first time visitors to virtual worlds. Find the
Presentation here.
One of the objects that was introduced was the Cartoon Puzzler, supporting an information-gap task, that is also part of the pilots with secondary pupils that we are running this week.
